Norway's Jotunheimen Mountains

It is called "Giants' Country," named for Norway's tallest mountains. Leif took our bus up over a 4,600 foot pass on a narrow, winding road. Snow and ice-covered mountains rose above us, disappearing into the clouds. Waterfalls cascaded down the steep, rocky slopes.

Rounding a bend, we saw skiers and hikers, and my jaw dropped! Definitely a WOW picture!

Photos below: The switchbacks continued, as Leif steered our bus down to the valley, toward our Sognefjord cruise.

First we stopped for a group picnic, supplemented by the leftovers from our amazing Midsummer picnic back in Sweden. Would we ever tire of smoked salmon, herring, and Scandinavian bread? Not likely!

Sognefjord Cruise

We took the 2 1/2 hour fjord cruise portion of the popular "Norway in a Nutshell" trip. The glacier-carved Sognefjord is surrounded by steep cliffs and waterfalls, with remote settlements appearing from time to time. It was cool and cloudy, but that didn't stop us from bundling up and spending the afternoon on deck with our friends.

It was a 360°-immersive experience, with water stretching on for miles and rocky cliffs rising up on both sides. Best to settle back and enjoy, as it was difficult to capture the grandeur with a normal camera.

It was a beautiful day! Next stop...
